200 Years in the Making

Educating the next generation is about providing our pupils with resilience, nurturing creativity and the ability to adapt, lead, and problem solve. That’s why the UCS approach is centred on the individual, helping to build confidence, curiosity and independence. As we approach our bicentenary, we aren’t just looking back at where this ethos began; we are looking forward to where it must lead, ensuring our pupils are ready for the world that awaits them. That’s why, as we have launched Tomorrow’s Trailblazers: a campaign to build a School for the future.

We are living through a period of technological expansion that is rewriting the rules of human industry. By the time today’s Entry pupils reach the Sixth Form, the world will be more automated, more digital, and faster than ever before. In such a world, the most valuable assets a young person can count on are not just technical skills, but the fundamental qualities of being human: empathy, self-regulation, and the courage to create.

Your Legacy, Their Launchpad

Bricks and mortar are merely the foundation; the true structure we are building is character. When you support Tomorrow’s Trailblazers, you are ensuring that a UCS education remains a sanctuary for original thought and personal growth.

By uniting our ambitious building plans with a significant expansion of our bursary programme, we are protecting the diversity of thought and the richness of community that make UCS unique. We are giving our pupils the tools and sense of self to face an unpredictable world, not with apprehension, but with quiet confidence.

The footprint of our school is growing so that the potential of our pupils remains limitless. We invite you to join us. Help us lay the foundations for the next generation of trailblazers.

The Bursary Award Fund

A UCS Bursary Award can transform a young person’s life, helping to shape the course of their life. We are incredibly proud of what a UCS experience entails, and want this to be open to academically ambitious children from every background, regardless of household income. We are proud to provide 60 full or partial bursary places – 7% of the pupil population – each year.

Additionally, our Bursary Award programme enriches the life and community of UCS immeasurably, enabling our pupils to appreciate the value of inclusion and become more versatile collaborators and leaders in the future.

As we move towards our 200th anniversary in 2030, bursaries remain an important part of our future. Securing sustainable funding to support this is a vital part of the Development Office’s work. The Wellbeing Centre

A dedicated sanctuary at the heart of the school. The centre will provide pupils with the tools to build resilience, better enabling them to navigate the digital noise, and helping them to stay grounded in themselves and the world around them.

Drama

Drama shifts how pupils view themselves and how they treat others. Evidence suggests that playing an active part in shaping stories - whether through script writing, acting, set design or directing - enhances young people's capacity for empathy, influences how they navigate the world and teaches them about the limitlessness of what they can do. By enhancing and expanding our drama facilities, more pupils can step into the spotlight and share their creativity with our community, growing and learning in the process.

Music

Through music, young people master the most human of skills: to create, to convey emotion, and to communicate beyond words or screens. Music takes time, it takes patience, it takes passion. Evidence suggests that pupils who participate in music-making have a greater aptitude for languages, enhanced memory, and can focus on non-music-related tasks for longer. By enhancing our musical facilities, more of our pupils can discover the profound importance of honing a craft; learning that success often means stepping out of your comfort zone, away from the screen, and into the moment.
